62. B. 注意題目說的是airport departures, 即從airport發(fā)車在South Station in Boston不? 康臅r(shí)間。所以選B。

We keep reading that TV is bad for you. If this is true, how come the current generation of TV-addicted kids is much smarter than we are? In my home, the only people who can work the remote control are the children.

Perhaps TV does educate you. For example, you learn a useful medical fact: A person who has been shot always has time to speak an incomplete sentence before he dies. “The killer was…” (dies)

But I guess the biggest things we learn from TV can be regarded as “Life Skills”. Bad things only happen on dark and stormy nights. Emotional breakdowns cause people to wander in the heavy rain without umbrellas. And contrary to what scientists say, the crack(霹靂) of lightning and the accompanying flash happen at exactly the same time, wherever you are.

I’ve even acquired useful geographical facts from science-fiction shows: Aliens speak English no matter which planet they come from.

Making use of what we learn from TV can improve our security. Consider these truths. If you are ever attacked by 20 bad guys, don’t worry about being outnumbered. The criminals will hang back and take turns to approach you in ones and twos just so you can conveniently defeat them all. Bad guys who are completely covered in black clothes always remove their black masks to reveal that they are in fact, aha, women.

TV also teaches us important information about escaping from danger. Watch and learn. (1) If anyone is running after you down a passage, you will find that boxes have been conveniently placed near all the walls you need to jump over. (2) If you are tall and handsome, you can run from any number of armed criminals, and every shot will miss you.

Be warned, however. If your name card says “henchman” (幫兇) and you are part of a group of plain-looking people trying to catch a handsome individual, a single shot will kill you. But don’t be anxious: TV also delivers useful information for bad guys. All cars are inflammable (易燃的) and have amazing shock absorbers that enable them to fly into the air and land without damage — except police cars.

TV even teaches us about TV. Whenever anyone turns on a TV, it shows a news flash about someone they know. They then turn the box off immediately after that news item.

By saying “A person who has been shot always has time to speak an incomplete sentence

before he dies” (Paragraph 2), the writer shows his________.

A. humor                                                            B. sympathy

C. deep concern                                            D. medical knowledge

We can infer from Paragraph 3 that in the real world_______.

A. bad things cause people to break down in the rain

B. bad things never happen on dark and stormy nights

C. people with emotional problems like to walk in the rain without umbrellas

D. the crack of lightning and the accompanying flash don’t happen at the same time

On TV what usually happens when a person turns it on?

A. The news shown is always about someone the person knows.

B. The person always turns off the TV when it’s time for news.

C. The program shown is always about the importance of TV.

D. TV always shows news about famous people.

What’s the main idea of this passage?

A. Life skills can be learned from TV.

B. TV plays an important role in society.

C. Watching TV makes people more creative.

D. What happens in TV is very different from reality.

Just five one-hundredths of an inch thick and light golden in color, the Lay's potato chip seems an unlikely weapon for global control. But its maker, Frito-Lay doesn't think so. "Potato chips are a snack food for the world , "said Salman Amin, the company's head of global marketing. Amin believes there is no corner of the world that can resist the attractions of a Frito-Lay potato chip.

Frito-Lay is the biggest snack maker in America owned by Pepsico and accounts for over half of the parent company's $ 3 billion profits every year. But the U.S. snack food market is largely saturated(飽和),and to grow, the company has to look overseas.

Its strategy rests on two beliefs: first, a global product offers economies of scale(規(guī)模) with which local brands cannot compete. And second, consumers in the 21st century are drawn to "global" as a concept. "Global" does not mean products that are consciously regarded as American, but ones that consumers--especially young people--see as part of a modern, innovative(創(chuàng)新的) world in which people are linked across cultures by shared beliefs and tastes. Potato chips are an American invention, but most Chinese, for example, do not know that Frito-Lay is an American company. Instead, Riskey, the company's research and development head, would hope they associate the brand with the new world of global communications and business.

With brand concept a key factor, Riskey ordered a redesign of the Frito-Lay logo(標(biāo)識(shí)). The logo, along with the company's long-held marketing image of its chips, would help make the company's global development very easy.

The managers admit that they try to change national eating habits to a food created in America, but they don't think that means economic imperialism (霸主).  "We're making products in those countries, we're adapting them to the tastes of those countries, building businesses and employing people and changing lives , "said Steve Reinemund, Pepsico's chief manager.

Amin's belief is that _________.

A.people all over the world enjoy eating their potato chips

B.the light golden color increases the attraction of their potato chips

C.they must find new ways to promote sales in their country

D.potato chips can hardly control the world market

What do we learn about Frito-Lay from Paragraph 2?

A.It gives half of its profits to its parent company every year.

B.It needs to turn to the world market for development.

C.Its products used to be popular among overseas consumers.

D.Its development has caused fierce competition in the snack market.

One of the concepts on which Frito-Lay bases its development strategy is that __________.

A.consumers worldwide today are attracted by global brands

B.products suiting Chinese consumers' needs bring more profits

C.local brands cannot compete successfully with American brands

D.products identified as American will have promising market value

Why did Riskey have the Frito-Lay logo redesigned?

A.To suit changing tastes of young consumers.

B.To compete with other American chip producers.

C.To change the company's long-held marketing image.

D.To promote the company's strategy of globalization.

Sometimes doing something for yourself - even shopping--can give others a lift. That's the case at charity shops and non-profit stores such as Ten Thousand Villages which helps provide skilled workmen with money in developing countries.
Their handicrafts(手工藝品) are sold throughout North America in 180 stores, 95 of them operated by Ten Thousand Villages.
"People come into the store because we have a lot of interesting things, but then they're drawn to us by the mission(慈善的行動(dòng)) ," says organization spokeswoman Juanita Fox.
"It just feels good to be making a difference when you're buying something."
In the Alexandria, Virginia shop, generals display windows draw you in. They are filled with practical, attractive home furnishings in blue and white, all international in mood.
Once inside though, it's clear that this isn't just another import store. On the wall behind the cash register is the following note:
"Ten Thousand Villagers provides necessary, fair income to Third World people by marketing their handicrafts and telling their stories in North America. Your Buying Makes a Difference. "
The store was opened in 1994 as part of a network of shops across the USA run by the Mennonite Church, which is based in Akron, Pennsylvania.
Currently, 60,000 skilled workmen from 32 countries provide goods to the stores, with all proceeds (收益) re-invested in the organization.
Management of the Alexandria shop is overseen by an all-volunteer board of directors. More than 40 additional volunteers help doing everything from working the register to unpacking stock.
Maria Yannopoulos got involved after visiting a store and getting to know another volunteer. "Since we are non-profit, we are really looking for value because the more we sell, the more jobs we can create. Giving someone job rather than charity helps in so many ways. "

Is the customer always right?    【小題1】   Shopping is very much a part of a country’s culture, and attitudes to shopping and consumers vary from country to country just as much as climate or taste in food.
Recent economic hardship has given the consumers increased power in Europe because shopkeepers fight to win their share of reduced disposable(可支配的)income. This has meant falling prices, plenty of special offers and a re-examination of what customer service really means.
【小題2】  In restaurants in the south of the USA, for example, waiters compliment(恭維)you on your clothes, ask about your day, compliment you on your wisdom of your order and then return every ten minutes to refill your glass and make sure that everything is to your satisfaction.
Anyone who has waited 30 minutes to be served in a restaurant may possible dream of such customer service.     【小題3】  In fact, different nationalities expect different types of service. As a friend of mine once told me “By the end of evening I had spent as much time talking to the waiter as to my wife.”
A Chinese-American friend loves telling people about how her Chinese mother shops for clothes. First of all she waits until they are on sale.     【小題4】  And later she finds some small fault with the product and demands a further reduction. She never buys anything at the regular price. Could you imagine trying such ways in department stores in other countries?0
Attitudes to service are, of course, affected by employer’s attitudes to their workers. As American waiters heavily depend on tips, they have to provide more service. But is this fair?     【小題5】    It might not be a case of “Is the customer always right?” but a case of “How much service is it fair to expect?”

A.People often point to America as an example of good customer service.
B.It is a question of expectations.
C.Do we think it is fair to ask shop assistants to work late evenings or on Sundays?
D.Then she asks for a discount until she gets an even better price.
E. The answer, it seems, depends on which country you are in.
F. The way we shop shows the way we get along with other people.
G. However, do Europeans really want US style service?

A man claiming to be a pastor(牧師) apparently tried to stiff a waiter on a tip, explaining that his work for God allowed him not to leave one.

A photo of the receipt, posted to Reddit.com, shows a bill for $34.93 with an automatic 18 percent gratuity(小費(fèi)) (or $6.29) added above a blank space for an additional tip.

“I give God 10%,” the diner wrote on the receipt, scratching out the automatic tip. “Why do you get 18?” He then wrote “Pastor” above his signature, and an emphatic “0” where the additional tip would be. (The automatic gratuity, however, had already been added to the total.)

The Reddit user who submitted the image explained in the comments section that the receipt was part of a total bill for a party of 20, which is why the gratuity was automatically added.

“Parties up to eight ... may tip whatever they’d like, but larger parties receive an automatic gratuity," the server wrote. "It’s in the computer; it’s not something I do.”

The server added: “They had no problem with my service, and told me I was great. They just didn’t want to pay when the time came.”

Scribbling(亂涂) notes on receipts has become something of a trend. Earlier this month, the manager of a North Carolina Red Robin surprised an overdue pregnant woman by comping her meal.

“Once seated, a manager came up to us and started talking,” the woman's husband told Consumerist. “He was extremely friendly and jokingly asked my wife if this was her last meal before heading to the hospital.”

When the check came, a note from the manager next to her portion of the bill read: “MOM 2 BEE GOOD LUC.”

“It was a pleasant surprise and made my tired-of-being-pregnant wife a little more cheery,” the man said.

1.What did the pastor mean by saying, “I give God 10%. Why do you get 18?”

A. He was bargaining with the waiter.

B. He didn’t mean to pay the gratuity at all.

C. God gave him the privilege not to pay a gratuity.

D. The gratuity had already been paid by his friends.

2.What do you learn from the article?

A. The pastor paid ten percent gratuity of the meal to God.

B. A party of six diners can choose whatever gratuity they want to pay.

C. According to the husband, the wife enjoyed the process of being pregnant.

D. The pastor paid $34.93 in total for the meal.

3.What does the underlined word “stiff” mean?

A. amuse                     B. abuse             C. persuade                D. fail to pay
