If you look for a book as a present for a child. You will be spoiled for choice even in a year when there is no new Harry Patten J.K Rowling’s wizard is not alone: the past decade has been a harvest for good children’s books ,which has set off a large quantity of films and in turn led to increased sales of classics such as The Lord of the Rings.

Yet despite that ,reading is increasingly unpopular among children .According to statistics, in 1997 23% said they didn’t like reading at all . In 2003, 35% did . And around 6% of children leave primary school each year unable to read properly.

Maybe the decline is caused by the increasing availability of computer games. Maybe the books boom has affected only the top of the educational pile . Either way , Chancellor Cordon Brown plans to change things for the bottom of the class .In his pre-budget report , he announced the national project of Reading Recovery to help the children struggling most.

Reading Recovery is aimed at six-year-olds ,who receive four months of individual daily half-hour classes with a specially trained teacher . An evaluation earlier this year reported that children on the scheme made 20 months’ progress in just one year, whereas similarly weak readers without special help made just five months’ progress ,and so ended the year even further below the level expected for their age.

International research tends to find that when British children leave primary school they read well ,but read less often for fun than those elsewhere .Reading for fun matters because children who are keen on reading can expect lifelong pleasure and loving books is an excellent indicator of future educational success . According to the OECD, being a regular and enthusiastic reader is of great advantage.

解析:

根據第一段“...the past decade has been a harvest for good children’s books, which has set off a large quantity of films and in turn led to increased sales of classics such as The lord of the Rings.”

根據第二段“Yet despite that,reading is increasingly unpopular among children.”

根據第四段“An evaluation earlier this year reported that children on the scheme made 20 months’ progress in just one year, whereas similarly weak readers without special help made just five months’ progress”可知參加讀書恢復計劃的孩子一年內取得了20個月的進步,而沒有得到幫助的孩子只取得了5個月的。

根據最后一段“Reading for fun matters because children who are keen on reading can expect lifelong pleasure and loving books is an excellent indicator of future educational success.”

Who are these people rushing by you on the street? More than 250 million people now call America" home" , but most of them can trace their families back to other parts of the world. Plants are very important living things. Life could not go on if there were no plants. This is because plants can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals get their food by eating plants and other animals. Therefore animals and man need plants in order to live. This is why we find that there are so many plants around us. If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and non-flowering plants. Flowering plants can make seeds. The seeds are protected by the fruits. Some fruits have one seed, some have two, three or four, and some have many seeds. But a few fruits have no seeds at all. An example of a fruit without seeds is the banana fruit. Most non-flowering plants do not grow from seeds. They grow from spores(胚芽)。 Spores are very small. Some spores are so small and light that they can float in the air. We may say that spores are quite the same as seeds. When these spores are all on wet and shady places, they usually grow into new plants.

If you look up the word “create” in the dictionary, you will find it means “to brig into being to cause to exist something each of us does daily.”

We are creative whenever we look at or think about something in a new way. First this involves an awareness of our surroundings. It means using all of our sonses to become aware of our world. This may be as simple as being aware of color and texture(質地), as well as taste, when we plan a meal. Above all, it is the ability to notice things that others might miss.

A second part of creativity is an ability to see relationships among things. If we believe the expression, “There is nothing new under the sun, the creativity is remaking or recombining(重組) the old in new ways.” For example, we might do this by finding a more effective way to study or a better way to arrange our furniture, or we might make a new combination of camera lenses and filters to create an unusual photograph.

A third part of creativity is the courage and drive to make use of our new ideas, to apply them to achieve some new results. To think up a new concept is one thing; to put the idea to work is another.

These three parts of creativity are involved in all the great works of genius, but they are also involved in many of our day-to-day activities.

64.Which of the following activities is NOT a creative one according to the passage?

A.To prepare a meal.

B.To arrange the furniture in a peculiar way.

C.To buy some books from a bookstore.

D.To “write” a letter with the computer.

65.“There is nothing new under the sun.” (Par.3) really implies that ____.

A.a new thing can only be created at the basis of earlier things

B.a new thing is only a tale

C.we can seldom create new things

D.we can scarcely see really new things in the world

66.What does the author think about the relationship between a new thought and its being put into

practice?

A.It´s more difficult to create a new thought than to apply it in practice.

B.To find a new thought will definitely lead to the production of a new thing.

C.A man with an excellent ability of practice can easily become an inventor.

D.One may come up with a new thought, but can not put it into practice.

67.The best title for this passage is ____.

A.How to Cultivate One´s Creativity

B.What is Creativity

C.The Importance of Creativity

D.Creativity, a Not Farway Thing
