Through history, children have played with toys and they help to prepare children for adult life. But the toys are changing all the time. As science and technology have changed the way adults live, the toys children play with have changed as well. Developments in science and technology have had a big effect on the toys that children play with. Today trains and mobile phones are popular toys for young children, but there were no toys of this kind before real trains and mobile phones were invented.  The materials that toys are made of have also changed.  Today lots of toys are made of plastic. Plastic is a modern, man-made material that did not exist (存在) in the past. On the other hand, some other toys that you have might not be all that different from the ones children played with 1,000 years ago. Scientists have found some bone dice (骰子)in Aberdeen. In medieval (中世紀(jì)的)times dice were used for playing games as much as they are today.
A recent survey found that half of all the children aged from 4 to 6 have played video games, a quarter of them regularly. The increasing use of electronic toys troubles Dr Singer, a professor at Yale. “One thing we know is that kids in early years need to be in touch with the real world,” he said, “No matter how brilliant they are, they’re not going to learn to walk, to move or to talk to others unless their hands or feet have a direct role in such activities.”
Some toy experts argue that the best toys are the ones that increase a child’s creativity and imagination. Traditional toys can be used for different kinds of purposes and be used in group settings, individually(單獨(dú)地), and one-to-one. They are also used differently depending on the child’s age and skill level. And these toys made of natural materials are valuable for children because they teach children what the world is made of.
【小題1】In how many ways do toys change according to the first paragraph?

A.One.B.Two.C.Three.D. Four.
【小題2】From the article, we can know that     .
A.only children like to play with toys
B.toys have nothing to do with children’s future life
C.the development of toys is related to science and technology
D.plastic is the best material for making toys
【小題3】According to Dr Singer,     .
A.the electronic toys are good for children if they play often enough
B.the electronic toys prevent children keeping in touch with the real world
C.children should be stopped from being hurt by the danger coming from the outside world
D.children should play with electronic toys instead of the traditional ones

【小題1】B
【小題2】C
【小題3】B

解析【小題1】細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文章的第一段中的“Developments in science and technology have had a big effect on the toys that children play with.”和“The materials that toys are made of have also changed”可知,文章是從玩具的種類和制作玩具的材料兩方面來(lái)說(shuō)明玩具的變化。故選B。
【小題2】推理判斷題。A項(xiàng)的內(nèi)容在文章中并沒(méi)有提及;根據(jù)第一段的“children have played with toys and they help to prepare children for adult life”可知,玩具對(duì)他們將來(lái)的生活有影響,故B項(xiàng)錯(cuò);第一段的“Plastic is a modern, man?made material that did not exist in the past”只是說(shuō)塑料在過(guò)去不存在,但是不能推出它是最好的材料,故D項(xiàng)的說(shuō)法也是不正確的;根據(jù)第一段的“Developments in science and technology have had a big effect on the toys that children play with”可知,科技的發(fā)展影響著玩具的發(fā)展,故正確答案為C項(xiàng)。
【小題3】細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第二段的“One thing we know is that kids in early years need to be in touch with the real world, ...unless their hands or feet have a direct role in such activity”可知,電子玩具阻止孩子和真正世界的接觸。故選B。

Mapping Your World
Different forms of maps are appearing. They allow independent travelers to get local knowledge of places they are visiting, from the official to the unusual.Meanwhile, hi-tech developments are creating new ways for us to map the world. Here are two of our favorites:
Green Maps
Green Maps allows people to share with the world their knowledge of environmentally friendly places and attractions in the local areas.Users add information with a set of icons(圖標(biāo)), making it easy to read any map, whatever the nationalities of those who produce it.At present there are over five hundred map projects being developed in 54 countries.Green Maps’ advertised idea is “think global, map local”.It is a wonderful way of gaining all sorts of information of a place, ranging from community gardens to good places of birdwatching.
Green Maps is not specifically intended for travelers. Not all of its maps are online, so it may be necessary for some users to communicate with the producers through the Green Maps website.
Maps Mashups
Many people use online maps developed by Google, but not many know about the mashups of them.Working in a similar way to Green Maps, Map Mashups allows people to add icons of their own to existing maps to express a certain topic. The mashups is so called because it combines all the knowledge you could ever need.It ranges from the extremely useful, such as where all the World Heritage Sites are, to the most bizarre (古怪的),such as where America’s drunkest cities are. With the mashups added to the basic Google Maps, a multi-layered (多層的) map can be created.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:20102011學(xué)年度遼寧省瓦房店市上學(xué)期10月考高一英語(yǔ)試卷 題型:閱讀理解

Imagine a classroom missing the one thing that's long been considered a necessary part to reading and writing ? Paper. No notebooks, no textbooks, no test paper. Nor are there any pencils or pens, which always seem to run out of ink at the critical (關(guān)鍵的) moment.

A "paperless classroom" is what more and more schools are trying to achieve.

Students don't do any handwriting in this class. Instead, they use palm (手掌) size, or specially-designed computers. The teacher downloads texts from Internet libraries and sends them to every student's personal computer.

Having computers also means that students can use the Web. They can look up information on any subject they're studying ? from maths to social science.

High school teacher Judy Herrell in Florida, US, described how her class used the Web to learn about the war in Afganistan (阿富汗) over one year ago.

"We could touch every side of the country through different sites ? from the forest to refugee camps (難民營(yíng))," she said. "Using a book that's three or four years old is impossible."

And exams can go online too. At a high school in Tennessee, US, students take tests on their own computers. The teacher records the grades on the network for everyone to see and then copies them to his own electronic grade book.

A paperless classroom is a big step towards reducing the waste of paper. High school teacher Stephanie Sorrell in Kentucky, US, said she used to give about 900 pieces of paper each week to each student.

"Think about the money and trees we could save with the computers," she said.

But, with all this technology, there's always the risk (危險(xiǎn)) that the machines will break down. So, in case of a power failure or technical problems, paper textbooks are still widely available (可用的) for these hi-tech students.

1. What does the part of the last sentence in the first paragraph, “run out of ink at the critical

moment”, mean?

   A. Pens may not write well at the critical moment.

  B. Pens get lost easily, so you may not find them at the critical moment.

  C. Pens may have little or no ink at the critical moment.

  D. Pens use ink, while pencils don't.

2. In a paperless classroom, what is a must?

  A. Pens. B. Computers. C. Information. D. Texts.

3.The high school teacher, Judy Herrell, used the example of her class to show that _______.

  A. the Web could take them everywhere B. the Web taught them a lot

  C. the Web is a good tool for information

  D. the Web, better than the textbooks, can give the latest and comprehensive (全面的) information

4.The paperless classrooms will benefit _____ the most.

  A. students B. teachers C. trees D. computers

5.What does the phrase in the last paragraph, “break down”, mean?

  A. Break into pieces. B. Stop working. C. Fall down. D. Lose control.
