　　The first ever trans-Atlantic telephone call was made from New York City to London in 1927．In keeping with this spirit, we'd like to tell you some of our other communication records：

　　In l971, Ray Tomlinson, an engineer at the computer company, and Newman in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the U．S．A．sent the first email．At first it was an experiment to see if he could get two computers to exchange(交換)a message．(It was Ray who decided to use the @ symbol to separate(分開(kāi))the others' name from their location．The first email message was“QWERTYUIOP”．put the @ sign into the first e-mail message

　　You will have a lot of reading to do in this grade this year．You can do more of it in less time if you learn to read rapidly．

　　Perhaps you have been told about some habits (習(xí)慣) which keep a person from reading fast and have been strongly asked to break those habits which you might have．

　　If you read no more than one or two or three words at a time，you need to work very hard in learning to take in (吸收) more words at each glance (一瞥) as your eyes travel across the lines of words．

　　“It is clear that a mouse is the greatest thing in the world,” the happy Mouse King said, with a smile on his face.
